Drag appointments and time off on the schedule

Hold an appointment or a block of time off on the schedule to move it, or drag its top or bottom edge to change when it starts or ends. Clicking empty space now asks whether to book a client or block the time off.

Two changes to the day and week views of the schedule in the dashboard. Both are about doing the common thing without opening a form first. The staff app's schedule on your phone works as it did.

Hold an appointment down until three grips appear. Drag the middle to move it, or the top or bottom edge to change when it starts or ends.

Moving and resizing

  1. Press and hold an appointment or a block of time off for about half a second. It lifts, and grips appear at its top, middle and bottom. A quick tap still opens the appointment, as it always has.
  2. Drag the middle (or anywhere on it) to move the whole thing. If you keep holding after the grips appear, it moves with you straight away. In week view you can drag it onto another day; in day view it stays with its stylist.
  3. Drag the top or bottom edge to change just the start or just the end. The time you're dragging to is shown above the block as you go, in 15-minute steps.
  4. Let go to save. There's no separate save button. Press Escape or click anywhere else when you're finished, and the grips go away.
  • Stretching an appointment holds the extra time without touching its services. The services and the price stay as they were. The extra minutes are blocked on the schedule, your booking page won't offer them, and dragging another appointment into them asks before double-booking.
  • On the appointment, it shows as Extra time, always last in its list of services. A service you add afterwards keeps its own length and uses the extra time up first, and so does making a service longer. The appointment only gets longer once the services run past its end. At that point the extra time is gone.
  • Removing extra time (under Edit services) asks first, because it takes the appointment back to its services' own length and frees that time on the schedule.
  • It can't be shorter than its services. A 60-minute cut can't be dragged down to 45 minutes: the edge stops where the services end, and dragging back to that point is the other way to drop the extra time.
  • The new length sticks. Moving the appointment later keeps the length you gave it.
  • Landing on another appointment asks whether to double-book the stylist, the same question as anywhere else. Choose Put it back and it goes back where it was.
  • Time off that spans more than one day (a week away) can't be dragged, because there's no single top or bottom edge on screen to grab. Click it to change the dates instead.
The client isn't told automatically

Moving an appointment sends nothing, because you've usually agreed the new time with the client already. For a confirmed appointment, the confirmation that pops up after a move has a button to email them the new time. Leave it and nothing goes out. You can also send the client their confirmation, which shows the new time, from the appointment's own page.

Clicking an empty spot

Clicking empty space in the day or week grid used to open New booking. It now asks first: New booking, or Block time off. New booking opens with that stylist, day and time filled in, as before. Block time off opens the time-off form starting at that time and lasting an hour. Change either end before you save, or switch on All day.
