Taking payment at the chair
The ways to collect, which ones actually move money, and how tipping works.
Checkout is the same screen everywhere you can start one — from an appointment, from the dashboard, or as a fresh sale with no booking behind it.
The ticket is editable
Before you take payment you can add a service, a product from your catalog or a custom charge, change a price or a quantity, discount one line or the whole ticket, and remove things. If stock counting is on, selling a product takes it off your count. You can go back to the ticket after choosing a payment method without losing any of it.
You can't edit a ticket below what's already been collected on it. If a deposit is already paid, the ticket can't drop under that figure — refund the difference instead.
Which methods move money
This is the distinction worth knowing, because two of these look identical on the screen and behave nothing alike.
There's one more in the staff app: Tap to pay turns the phone itself into the card reader, so a client taps their card or watch against the back of it and the charge lands on your Stripe account like any other. It needs an Android phone with contactless — it isn't on iPhone yet, and it can't be on this screen at all, since a computer has nothing to tap against.
"Recorded only" means Inchair wrote it down, not that it arrived. Confirm it landed before you close the sale.
Tipping
After the payment method, you're asked whether to offer a tip. Say yes and the client gets the tip screen; say no and it's skipped. For cash and the logged-only methods you'll see the tip step yourself, since there's no device to hand anyone.
A percentage is always taken on the pre-tip total, so changing your mind between 20% and 25% doesn't compound. A sale carries at most one tip — picking again replaces it rather than adding a second.
Receipts
When a ticket is paid off, the client is emailed their receipt — itemised, with the card or method each payment was made on — however it was paid: at the counter, in the staff app or on a pay link they finished later. It goes once per ticket, and only to a client with an email on file.
- The checkout's last screen says where it went. Send again sends another copy, to the same address or a different one.
- From the sale, Print receipt opens the same receipt to print or send.
- The email links to the client's own copy on your booking site, which they can open or print without signing in. Their account's payment history links there too.
- Rather send receipts only when asked? Switch them off under Bookings → Reminders (opens in a new tab). Sending one by hand still works.
